Michael Owen reveals his top four prediction for the 2017-18 Premier League season

Michael Owen reveals his top four prediction for the 2017-18 Premier League season

We’ve almost made it, people. It’s been an awfully long summer but the 2017-18 season is now upon us.

This weekend sees the Football League get underway and the Community Shield between Arsenal and Chelsea. The week after that the Premier League kicks off with an intriguing battle at the Emirates Stadium between Arsenal and Leicester City.

It promises to be another fascinating season, with most of the Premier League’s top clubs having strengthened their squads with new additions this summer.

As things stand, Manchester City are currently the bookmakers’ favourites to win the title, followed by Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool.

If you fancy an outsider then Everton (priced at around 10/1) are probably your best bet.

Every pundit will soon be asked to name the clubs they think will finish inside the top four this season.

It’s not an easy task this time around. Don’t believe us? Try it yourself.

Whichever teams you pick, a couple of big clubs are going to miss the cut.

Michael Owen reveals his top-four prediction

Michael Owen is one of the first pundits to nail his colours to the mast.

He believes the following clubs will secure a top-four finish this season: Man City, Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea.

Yep, there’s no room in Owen’s top four for either Arsenal or Tottenham.

Owen on Arsenal

"With Arsenal I'm just not sure about the overall feeling within the club,” Owen was quoted as saying by the Mirror. "My gut feeling is they could win five straight games, but if they lose the sixth the Wenger out brigade will come out which creates a negative atmosphere and that's probably the main thing going against Arsenal."

He’s got a point, to be fair.

Owen on Tottenham

But what about Spurs? They’ve been fantastic under Mauricio Pochettino over the past two seasons and, crucially, have managed to keep all of their best players.

Owen reckons it’s the Wembley factor will make a big difference: ”Spurs have the equivalent of 19 cup finals, going to Wembley will be great for young players who know they might not get another chance to play there and so everyone will be buzzing to play Tottenham away next season."

Owen reckons Liverpool can win the title

But which team does Owen think will win the title?

He believes it could finally be Liverpool’s year - provided they keep hold of Philippe Coutinho.

"Liverpool did an amazing bit of business by signing Coutinho to a new contract, especially when you look at Sanchez and Arsenal and the problems it's causing around the club,” he added.

Since Coutinho signed the new contract Liverpool have qualified for the Champions League, bought more quality players and are in a better place than they've been for a long time.”

Indeed, following Tuesday’s 3-0 victory over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, the Reds’ odds of winning the title will shorten even further ahead of the start of the new season.

Ryan Giggs predict Chelsea to struggle this coming Premier League season

Ryan Giggs  predict Chelsea to struggle  this coming Premier League season

Ryan Giggs says he doesn’t expect Chelsea to defend their Premier League title next season.

The Blues enjoyed a sparkling debut campaign under Antonio Conte last term as they lifted the Premier League title after having won a record 30 top-flight games.

However, Chelsea were able to win the title last term without the distraction of European football after they missed out on a place in the Champions League last season.

Chelsea are now preparing for their return to European football as they look to compete for honours on four fronts in Conte’s second season in charge at the club.

And former Manchester United star Giggs feels that Chelsea may not be as strong next season because of their inflated fixture list.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Giggs said: “You can’t ignore Chelsea because of their quality, but have they got the squad to balance defending the Premier League and European football? I’m not sure.”

Manchester United are also preparing for a return to the Champions League next season after the Red Devils won the Europa League last term under Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea missed out on the chance to win a domestic double last term when they were beaten by Arsenal in the FA Cup final back in May.

However, Conte’s men will have the chance to gain revenge on the Gunners when they take on the north London side in the Community Shield on Sunday.

Messi tells Barcelona: Spend Neymar cash on these 3 stars (with a barb for Zidane)

Messi tells Barcelona: Spend Neymar cash on these 3 stars (with a barb for Zidane)

Lionel Messi has offered his shopping list to Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

With Neymar's sale to PSG to raise €222m, Messi has been quick to get on the front foot and make clear to the board how best to spend the money raised.

Diario Gol says Neymar has already told Messi he is leaving and the Argentine has urged Bartomeu to spend the money on three key players.

Juventus striker Paulo Dybala and PSG winger Angel di Maria, both Argentina teammates of Messi, are seen as ideal additions to the attack.

And at the back, Messi has recommended Bayern Munich fullback David Alaba, who can also play in midfield.

Significantly, Alaba is also a favourite of Real Madrid president Florentino Perez and their coach Zinedine Zidane

What Neymar has been telling Philippe Coutinho on WhatsApp this summer

What Neymar has been telling Philippe Coutinho on WhatsApp this summer

We’re on the verge on the most incredible transfer in football history - Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain in an astonishing €222 million deal.

Many football fans will refuse to believe it until we see the Brazilian holding a PSG shirt at the official unveiling. But it seems we’re just a few days away from that happening.

Of course, Neymar’s transfer is going to have a serious domino effect on the transfer window.

Barca will no doubt look to spend the majority of the fee they receive for Neymar and appear to already be targeting his replacement in the form of Philippe Coutinho.

But if Neymar gets his way, Coutinho won’t be joining Barcelona.

What Neymar has been telling Coutinho

Why?

Well, according to Sport, he’s been trying to convince him to join PSG with him.

Sport write: “During his stay in the United States, Neymar dedicated himself to overwhelming messages from Whatsapp to Philippe Coutinho.  He asked (and continues to do so) to disregard the offer of FC Barcelona and to do as he join PSG.”

Neymar and Coutinho are great friends having both been born in 1992 and have played for various Brazil sides together from the age of 14.

It was thought that Barca were originally targeting Coutinho to keep Neymar happy at the club with the forward reportedly unhappy at the lack of Brazilian teammates at the Camp Nou. However, with Neymar set to leave for PSG, Barca now desperately want Coutinho to replace neymar.

DONE DEAL:Chelsea sign Sanches on loan

CHELSEA ARE making a late move for Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches. A Bola says Chelsea have agreed a deal for Sanches. Antonio Conte’s side have secured a loan agreement with Bayern for Sanches, and will announce the deal shortly. The deal is virtually completed for Sanches, who rejected AC Milan in favour of the Premier League. It’s believed Manchester United’s imminent signing of Nemanja Matic has accelerated Chelsea’s approach

Kylian Mbappe asking price raised to £178m amid Real Madrid and Barcelona transfer

Kylian Mbappe asking price raised to £178m amid Real Madrid and Barcelona transfer rumours

Still only 18 years old, Mbappe is regarded as one of the most exciting young talents seen for many years, and has been tipped to smash the world transfer record if he moves this summer.

Real Madrid have long looked the most likely to snap up the youngster, but there has also been ongoing interest from the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.

MONACO are in danger of pricing Kylian Mbappe out of a move this summer after bumping his asking price up to £178million (RM1 billion).
The Daily Mail reported that the Ligue One champions have made the move because they hope Barcelona will join the race to sign Mbappe once they have their £196m windfall from the sale of Neymar.
The summer saga of the Brazilian’s move to Paris Saint Germain could be concluded as early as Tuesday and that could have a direct impact on the future of Monaco's 18-year-old forward.
Real Madrid made it known last week they were prepared to pay a fee of around £145m for Mbappe rising to £160m over the course of his first contract. And Manchester City were willing to throw similar resources behind a bid.
Madrid’s bid was the larger of the two but Mbappe continues to be worried that his development will be stifled at Madrid and has been swayed by the prospect of the team being built around him at City under Pep Guardiola.
Neither Manchester City or Real Madrid are willing to pay such a figure for a player who has just 50 top-flight games under his belt and are waiting to see how the Neymar saga concludes and what Barca do next.
With Barcelona at risk of losing Neymar in a £197m move to PSG, Monaco reportedly hope they can tempt the Catalan giants into hijacking Real’s move for their star player.

According to the Daily Mail, they have also raised Mbappe’s asking price as they believe Barca may be better placed to pay a higher fee due to the likely sale of Neymar. While it had been thought City would match Real’s bid of £161m, it now looks increasingly likely that Premier League clubs are out of the running due to the sheer scale of money involved.
